The performance of Robert Duvall playing Kilgore conveys the image and role of stereotypical masculine dominace heroism. For example, in the scene where Napalm hits and the soldiers drop, Kilgore stands still and above the other soldiers. More specifically, his body language shows him with his hands on his hips looking into the distance. This displays the idea of power and bravery and also makes Kilgore conform to the stereotype of masculine action heroes. Furthermore the fact that he is standing above teh other soldiers could be symbolic of how he is superior to his soldiers in rank or maybe as an individual. This highlights Kilgores arrogance, egotism and deludeness as he could've of been killed, but he doesn't believe he will. It is almost as if he believes he is omnipotent, furthermore conveying ideas of dominace and deludedness.

The miss-en-scene of the scene also highlights masculine stereotypes and how it is portrayed through the character of Kilgore. For example, the iconography of the scene, in particular the costume of Kilgore, shows him wearing a calvary hat and black shades. This promotes the theme of patriotism and American pride because these two costume pieces gives an idea of heroism and coolness. This is ironic because America lost in Vietnam War. The calvary hat could suggest that Kilgore believes he is leading a calvary to fight and he is not interested in helping people. Maybe Kilgore is a embodyment of American arrogance and how it led to them losing the war.

The editing of the scene emphasises the moral greyness of the Americans and how transgress the elements of protagonists. For example, the quick cut to the Vietnemese village from the Valkyries highlights the contrast in tone of scenes, creates dramatic irony and makes the audience sympathise with the Vietnamese. More specifcally, the scene creates suspense and tension through the use of music, slow camera shots and use of helicopter blades, which symbolises danger, only to cut to a
